Life of Pi

I have finished my River Rapids Socks and they came out better than I thought they would. Cherry Hill Tree yarn is wonderful and soft and looks like it will wear very well. I love the colours here, such a vibrant green that really stands up and screams ‘SPRING’….even if the weather is doing the total opposite.

We had snow on the last day of February, I can’t remember that ever happening here in Vancouver before. I do remember snow dumps when we lived in Painesville, Ohio. In fact the day we moved into our house was the first day of spring (1984) and it snowed and snowed. Coming from Southern California, it wouldn’t be putting it mildly to say I was shocked. Yikes, what did we get ourselves into??

I’ve started and finished a Kitty Pi for my friend’s cats. She picked out the yarn – Noro Iro – and I knit the baby up for her. It didn’t come out as big as I hoped…..it is a bit small for the larger of her cats, Theia, but it suits mister skinny Billy to a ‘T’. So now I have a commission to knit a much larger one for Miss Theia and while I’m at it, I’m going to knit one for my own Rocky. He has seemed miffed since I took it away from our house, even though he could only fit his big rump in it, with no room to lay down or even recline. Off to the Mr. Big and Tall store for him!

I’ve started my mom’s birthday socks, but haven’t taken their picture yet. I’m using Koigu in voilets, pinks and blues. Because my mom likes her socks well up her leg, and her foot is, how can I put this delicately, um, very long, I didn’t think the Koigu alone would make a sock. So I cleverly bought a coordinating violet to use on the cuff, heel and toe. It looks like I’ll have plenty of yarn for the remainder of the foot. The pattern is Shetland Lace Rib Sock Pattern from Stitches of Violet. I love her patterns because she knits on 2 circulars like I do, with usually the same gauge as me. They are looking very pretty.
Here is a silly bit I wrote this morning. I had just listened to ‘Song for Woody’ written by Bob Dylan about Woody Guthrie, and this kept coming into my head…..well various versions and verses. I guess you could say I was hearing voices. The voices are a little quieter now.
Hey, hey Bobby Dylan, I knit you some socks,
Well, not really, but I would if we’d talk.
I need a shoe size and a diagram too,
Pure bliss in merino, could be comin’ to you.

Hey, hey Bobby Dylan, but I know that you know,
All the fans out here that have much to show.
Such creative folks that need a good muse,
But we’re pale imitations, we can’t fill your fine shoes.

I’m leaving this morning ’cause I’ve got lots to do,
Got to feed the cat now, I can hear his loud mieu.
So, if your feet in your boots feel a little bit blue,
Call me, I can knit up some soft socks for you.
