Knitting Socks Like A Fiend

Day four of October and I have 2 singles finished.

My goal, and it may be a bit lofty, is to complete four pairs of socks for the month of October. One pair is for me, three are destined to be Christmas gifts.

First up is Lupine Lace, a lovely pattern by Evelyn Clark. She also wrote the pattern for my Swallowtail Shawl and really has a knack for writing clear and concise directions. I used Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Violet, purchased from a friend who was quite anxious to sell of some stash to make way for a wee one. I was more than happy to oblige! These will be for my oldest daughter who has happily worn my handknit socks and has shown the proper amount of reverence for such a gift — so she’s on the list.

The socks for my mom will be knit with this yarn, also from Lorna’s Laces. This is called ‘Somerset’. It has the colours that she loves to wear, pinks and blues. I’ll probably do a simple patterned sock, maybe Charade, or just a plain stockinette sock — not that there’s anything wrong with that!

My husband will also get christmas socks. He’s pre-approved the yarn as he’s fearful I’ll knit him something unmanly and too bright and colourful. Not to fear dear, I’ll keep it dull neutral — heh. I have a pair in this yarn, Cascade Fixation, in green and they’re very soft and smooshy. His will be manly beige with a hint of blue.

Lastly, I started these socks in September, but hey, they can join the Soctoberfest fun too! These are for me, a simple garter-rib pattern in Tofutsies. Nothing like wearing chitin! My cat seems to like it, he was gnawing away on a strand….bleah!
So, two done, six more to go. Hey, it’s only the 4th!
