Summer Flowers Throw

Hey, here I am!  As I predicted, I’m a very unfaithful blogger.  I almost deleted the whole thing yesterday, but then I thought of all the effort that’s gone into it over the last couple of years, and decided to keep it after all.  It may change direction from what it’s been, but that is still undecided.

What I can do is show off my latest accomplishment and write a few notes about it.  I got this idea to do this blanket from the great inspiration found at flickr, ravelry and blogs of incredible crocheted blankets.  I knew I had to make one, I loved the look so much, and I want to make more.  Maybe larger squares this time and with wool.  But this is a perfect little cotton blanket for the warmer months, because despite my surges of heat these days, I still get cold in the evening.

I used knitpicks shine sport, and it has a great sheen to it and is so very, very soft.  It is heavier than I thought it would be.

I did run out of white to do a proper border. I have 1.5 skeins left of the white.  I have lots of all the other colours; that took far less than I estimated, but I underestimated the white.   Now, it should be easy to just order more white from knitpicks, but no.  White is back ordered till April 5th.  I’m just hoping that there isn’t a big dye-lot variation in white.  If so, then I’m screwed and will move on to plan “b”, but first I have to think up a plan “b”.   I’ll take any and all suggestions you may have for a plan “b”!

I had wanted this to be 36″ x 48″ but unblocked it is 30″ x 40″.  I hoped each block would be 3″ square (they seemed to be when I did my first test square), but they are 2.5″.  I’m not sure I can block it to the size I originally intended, but hopefully the border will add to the overall dimensions.  And if not, who cares!  And maybe with the leftover yarn I’ll make a throw pillow to match the blanket.

I better order lots more of the white.
