I’m not one for really wanting vacation souvenirs. Usually a new coffee mug and a few chocolates will keep me happy. But one day, while on an impulse shopping trip, my sister and I nipped into a little shop to look at the Hawaiian quilts, which are so gorgeous.
As much as I love them, I didn’t buy one, but found something else instead. We both emerged from the little shop with a new “dress of heat”, which always comes in handy for the summer, and we each had a stack of 10″ x 10″ fabric pieces to make our own quilts. Lucky for us they had two bundles all wrapped up in a bow; one for each of us, or it may have been a smack-down fight to grab the one.
220 squares…and all mine…and all my sister’s. I’m not sure if I’m going to sew all the squares up or maybe piece them to make a nice big bed quilt. I can’t wait to see what she does with hers. Lots of deciding to do. But for now I love looking at them. They’re bright and colourful and will give me lots to work on when the weather turns cold again and we’re in the dredges of winter. Drinking my coffee out of my hawaiian mug also will help, but alas, the chocolate macadamia nuts will be long gone.
