let the spinning wheel fly

Someone is waiting just for you
spinning wheel is spinning true
Drop all your troubles, by the river side
Ride a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel fly

—blood, sweat and tears

So I started spinning again after a 10 month sabbatical.  I can’t believe it’s 10 months!  That’s awful!  But I decided to move my wheel down to my office and I think that turned out to be a great idea.  I can spin during breaks or waiting for new work to arrive.  It’s easy to just jump over to the wheel, watch me some jon stewart or colbert on my laptop, and spin away!  yay!

The fibre I chose is one of the very first I bought when I got the wheel…from Freckle Face Fibers on Etsy.  It’s called “Peas and Cornbread” and is a lovely merino/tussah silk blend.  It is truly like spinning clouds, or butter, or clouds made from butter.  I have no idea what I’m going to use it for, yet, but something will come to me.

I did get out my basket of handspun out and started knitting.  I made Toast, a simple pattern from Friend to Friend.  Simple really does show off handspun best.  This yarn is the leftover ball from my hat I made last year.  I wore it out on a couple of cold-weather hikes the last week and thought I needed something to keep my hands warm, and yet was easy to push up and down as my hands are needed to do something like snap a photo, grip a tree to keep from sliding down a hill, or grab the handrail as I lean over a precarious spot….

happy crafting and have a good week!

  1. My toasts from handspun are one of my simplest knits yet one of my favorites. You are right, simple seems to work best with handspun to let all the beautiful colors shine. I love the color combination of what you are working on now…feels very ‘spring’ to me.
