me and miss mizzle

A shawl!  It’s finished and I’m wearing it today.  It’s perfect for our weather today and is light yet warm.  I used two lace-weight yarns.  One is Madelinetosh Prairie in French Grey (it’s a purply grey to be sure).  The second yarn is Alpaca Yarn Co. Suri Elegance in Middle Earth.  The Middle Earth has bits of rust, light purple and a light robin’s egg blue.  Just gorgeous and together they are a great blend of merino and alpaca and they both have 800+ yards.

I purchased both in California, although years apart.  The alpaca I got on a visit to a shop in Santa Monica, Wildfiber, about four or so years ago.  I tried different patterns with it, but I was never happy with it and it would keep getting ripped out and rewound.   The Madelinetosh I got on my last visit to Palm Desert and while we were there, we found a great little yarn shop, Ewe ‘n Me in La Quinta, full of gorgeous yarns and a table full of busy knitters.  It was most welcoming and impossible leave without a purchase.

So I chose this pattern, Mizzle, to make a shawl.  I added a few more rounds to it, as I had tons of yardage to work with.  I did another increase section to double the stitch count and so was up to 607 stitches for the border.  And then I added more rows to the ribbed border….basically till I ran out of yarn.

  1. Wildfiber is my fav LYS! Your shawl is just beautiful and a perfect size ~ I think the lightweight shawls in a larger size are the most wearable. Enjoy 🙂

  2. […] My Sometimes Crafty Life just finished a Mizzle Shawl. She made it with 2 different skeins of laceweight held double, and the color variation really is fantastic. From the pictures, you’d just think it’s a pink yarn speckled with a rust color, but if you zoom in you can see so much more. It really is rather fantastic! […]
