Happy Autumnal Equinox! The daylight hours are about equal to the nighttime hours and we’re headed towards dark times. But that means good things! Like wearing wool, finishing big wool blankets, cuddling under big wool blankets, a cat who wants more cuddles, soup and chowder for dinner, candlelight and fireplaces. As much as I’m going to miss my flipflops, shorts, running out without a jacket, lunches on the patio….I’m ready. Bring it on.
The loom is out of the closet. For the first time in almost four years. I can’t believe it’s been that long since I’ve woven anything, but I was inspired by my sister’s weaving. Only. I choose the wrong yarn to warp this with. My sister brought this back from Turkey and I always thought it would make a wonderful weaving project with its long colour changes. It warped up wonderfully, full width of my loom…the stipes came out symmetrical. Only. It sticks like a beast. Every time I change the heddle position, the warp yarns refuse to separate. But I’m going to stick (har har) with this and see it through. It just takes patience.
When the weaving gets me frustrated and my patience is running out, it’s great to get out the hook and whip up another scarf. Am I addicted? Yep! I’ve also got my linen stitch blanket out and have been adding rows to that too. I’ll get pictures of that this week.
It’s raining today. It’s supposed to rain most of this week. So last week we soaked up the last of the warm rays, with our toes in the sun, ready to hunker down with our blankets and warm socks and cuddles.
Enjoy what the changes bring and have a good week!
